Certification Exam

Revised April 18, 2023

Is there a certification exam/test?  How can I prepare for the exam/test?

This question only applies to those taking the Certified ScrumMaster (CSM) course. None of our other courses require an exam.

Only the Certified ScrumMaster (CSM) course requires the taking of an exam to receive the certification. All other courses we offer do not have an exam and  course certifications are awarded immediately upon successfully completing the course (assuming satisfactory attendance, participation, and meeting any prerequisites).

Your total course registration cost includes the exam fee with the Scrum Alliance, the issuing organization of the CSM certification. We pay the Scrum Alliance on your behalf.

For the Certified ScrumMaster (CSM) course, to be eligible to take the exam, all students must first complete the full training course, which means sitting through all days of class and fully participating in the course, asking questions, being fully engaged, and completing the training activities during the group breakout sessions.

Our Scrum courses are designed to teach you the theory and philosophy behind Scrum, which will both prepare you for real-world application of Scrum and give you everything you need to pass the Certified ScrumMaster (CSM) exam.

What is the exam process?

Upon successfully completing full CSM course, you will receive an email from the Scrum Alliance with a link to take the exam.

You can take your exam immediately following the end of the course, or you can study for a few days and then take your exam. We recommend completing your exam as soon as possible after your course. Most people take the exam immediately after the course ends on the second day of class.  You cannot take the exam before the class ends on the second day of class.  You must complete the exam within 90 days of receiving the exam link from the Scrum Alliance.

You can take the CSM exam online from any location on demand at any time that works best for you. You do not need to go to an exam testing center for your exam.

What is the exam format?

The exam has 50 multiple-choice questions, of which 37 correct answers are needed to pass (74% correct to pass). There is a 60-minute time limit for the exam. After the exam, you receive your score immediately.

How should I prepare for the CSM exam?

Pay attention and participate in your course. Ask questions and engage the other students in conversations during class to deepen everyone’s understanding of the material. After your course, read the provided materials.
